Likana Cana’s This is a Mirror offers a space for pause, quiet, attention, reflection, and care for a chaotic, hyper-connected world we live in. This is done through instructional poems, inspired by the Fluxus movement, that focus more on the creative process rather than the artwork itself. Like art performance scenarios, they feel as if reading a user’s manual about life. The practice of care for our own selves is presented by intermixing art with elements from our daily lives. Readers are often reminded and encouraged, often in entertaining ways, to enjoy the small moments in life — the very ones that life is made up of but which we often forget about.
Style Variations
Through this book, art is brought outside of a gallery, to be performed and created organically with minimal requirements. As the readers perform the artist’s instructions, they are transformed from a public into co-creators.
