About the artbook: This artbook is a collection of instructional poems that make use of the reader’s participation. Its main topic is an investigation into different ways to better relate to ourselves, by providing a service of care and hope through art. It pays tribute to the mind, each other, the planet, and the universe.
The mind has infinite dimensions, blue speaks the language of infinity. It opens a portal where the seen and unseen, conscious and unconscious merge. Blue lives in both planes of existence. Blue makes the invisible visible by giving what it surrounds an immaterial dimension.
This is done through instructional poems, inspired by the Fluxus movement, that focus more on the creative process rather than the artwork itself. As the readers perform the artist’s instructions, they are transformed from an audience into co-creators therefore the launch of the book is transformed into an exhibition where the audience can interact with the scores and understand the overall feeling of the book
About the author: Likana Cana is a transdisciplinary practitioner, working both with the arts and sciences. She is a cognitive psychology graduate, from which she lectures, does research, and is a PhD student. She is a published author in both creative and academic mediums a conceptual art student and is involved in several creative practices which include music videos, directing, exhibitions, and publishing.

Join us for the launch of “Arnautistan Noir,” the latest comic book from the Lumbardhi Foundation. Immerse yourself in an alternate history universe where Prizren is the capital of Arnautistan, and the place where the once-declining Empire was transformed into a Confederation. Written by Artrit Bytyçi and illustrated by Ardi Shishko, this comic book features an immersive multimedia experience with a soundtrack composed by Liburn Jupolli.

“Arnautistan Noir” is published under StoryLab’s KSci-Fi imprint, which aims to promote science fiction and fantasy from Kosovo (by fostering a community, organizing creative writing workshops, supporting publications, and serving as a seal of approval and recommendation for new works).

Likana Cana’s This is a Mirror is a collection of instructional poems that make use of the reader’s participation. They merge the playful with the philosophical, transform the artistic into the everyday, and encourage the reader to digest rather than consume.
During our recent trip to Berlin, in December 2022, StoryLab was honored to further its collaboration with Humboldt University of Berlin.
Beside presenting some of our works, artbooks, workshops, and activities during the event hosted by the Southeast Europe Association, we also cooked up some collaboration deals with the Cultural Studies Department at HU Berlin.

Atlas of Fantastical Realism is a collection of short stories that explore Kosovo’s journey as a country through a lens of the fantastical, surreal, mythical, absurd, and, occasionally, humor and playfulness. State- and nation-building in the Balkans often fall into the realm of legends and myths rather than history and facts, and so, these kinds of stories attempt to reconcile the many disparaging narratives and realities one may encounter.
StoryLab is proud to announce the second issue of StoryLab Zine. The theme for this edition is KSci-Fi as this time around we will focus on science fiction and fantasy from Kosovo and beyond.
StoryLab had the honor of hosting a group of students and professors from The Courtauld Institute, London.
As part of their Global Conceptualism course, professors Sarah Wilson and Elizaveta Butakova are interested in the relationship between conceptual art and art in the present day, as well as global social and political contexts.
During StoryLab’s presentation, we discussed how science fiction is a great tool not only to study, understand, and deal with history, but also to explore contemporary issues our societies are faced with.
We also discussed several possibilities on how to extend the cooperation between StoryLab and the Courtauld Institute of Art.
In September 2022, StoryLab had the pleasure to host a group of students and professors from Max Planck Institute for Art History based in Rome. Our meeting took place at the Center for Narrative Practice in Prishtina, Kosovo.
We presented some of our past and upcoming projects, as well as our current involvement with Manifesta 14 Prishtina.
We discussed non-traditional education methods that StoryLab uses for its workshops and focused on some of our publications.
NSK Territory Prishtina An IRWIN project at On Top Residency

Slovenian art collective IRWIN and Epifani Institute from Prishtina, Kosovo are announcing the ‘NSK Territory Prishtina’, their joint project at the location of On Top Residency set to launch on July 19, 2022, at 18:00.
On this date, at the location of the On Top Residency, by raising the NSK flag, a small plot of land will be declared an “independent territory” by IRWIN, a practice that follows the group’s previous artistic explorations into issues of the state, its institutions, and their symbols.
The IRWIN was founded in 1983 by artists Dušan Mandič, Miran Mohar, Andrej Savski, Roman Uranjek, and Borut Vogelnik. Moreover, IRWIN are also co-founders of the Neue Slowenische Kunst, a political art collective with works such as NSK State in Time, which explores and challenges the ideas of the sovereign state.
Per IRWIN, the NSK State “does not exist in space but in time,” and any place can become part of it “under certain circumstances and for a certain period of time.” Since NSK State is made up of all the activities of its citizens, and since its citizens are spread throughout the world, it can be rightfully claimed that “NSK is a global state.”
This is exemplified by IRWIN’s various projects such as NSK Embassy Moscow, NSK Passport, NSK Post Office, NSK Guard, including the NSK State Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. “All these projects have their different conceptual backgrounds and realizations,” say IRWIN “but share one trait: they all take everyday institutions or objects as their points of reference and make them NSK institutions or objects.”
The same goes for this current collaboration with Fatmir Mustafa Karllo’s On Top Residency, which in itself mirrors some aspects of the state. It utilizes an unused public property on the outskirts of Prishtina, specifically a hill in Butoc, along Kavaja Street. The location is marked by white flour — that serves as a sort of a border — transforming the space into an “outdoor” gallery.
One of the reasons why Mustafa-Karllo chose this land for his art initiative is its picturesque location with a great view of Prishtina, especially during sunsets.
“Unfortunately,” says Mustafa-Karllo, “this also makes it a perfect location for the construction of potential luxury apartment buildings or high-end villas. Such a move would destroy and negate the very beautiful nature in the first place.”
“We should constantly work towards raising awareness against the commercialization of public space,” says Mustafa-Karllo. According to him, the construction of these buildings may be inevitable, and “it would cut access to these views and this nature for the majority of the people.” And so, the main purpose of On Top Residency is the “preservation, promotion, and use of public spaces and nature” through artistic and cultural activities.
Appropriating in the name of art turns out to have some benefits for the community. “As per my initial concept,” says Mustafa-Karllo, “this open space would continue functioning as an open gallery, where in the future, various artists with site-specific projects would be invited to create and exhibit works that are related to the On Top Residency’s project.”
The way how IRWIN appropriate existing objects and institutions is similar to the concept of the readymade and could, in effect, be applied to an unlimited number of instances. However, IRWIN are very careful and practice a rigorous selection process — just as is recommended with designating new readymades. “[We decide] on NSK projects only after careful deliberation and not too frequently,” say IRWIN, thus affirming that the ‘NSK Territory Prishtina’ undoubtedly belongs with the series of all other NSK projects.
The NSK flag used in this project has been used since the beginning of the NSK State in Time project back in 1992. But, at the core of this project “is not the NSK flag,” say IRWIN, “but the use of this flag to temporarily incorporate part of Kosovo into the NSK State.”
NSK may not yet have its own financial system, economy, or sports league, but IRWIN say that its citizens can “nonetheless claim that a plot of land on a hill close to Prishtina is, in addition to being in Kosovo, also a part of the NSK State.”

Kolektivi slloven i artit IRWIN dhe Instituti Epifani nga Prishtina njoftojnë për projektin e tyre të përbashkët të titulluar ‘NSK Territory Prishtina’ (Territori i NSK-së në Prishtinë), në lokacionin e On Top Residency, që do të fillojë më 19 korrik 2022 në ora 18:00.
Më këtë datë, në lokacionin e On Top Residency, duke ngritur flamurin e NSK-së, një parcelë e vogël toke do të shpallet “shtet i pavarur” nga IRWIN, një praktikë e tyre kjo që vazhdon në traditën e eksplorimeve të mëparshme artistike të grupit mbi temat që kanë të bëjnë me shtetin, institucionet, dhe simbolet e tyre.
Grupi IRWIN është themeluar më 1983 nga artistët Dushan Mandiq, Miran Mohar, Andrej Savski, Roman Uranjek, and Borut Vogelnik. IRWIN gjithashtu janë bashkëthemelues të Neue Slowenische Kunst, një kolektiv i artit politik me vepra si ‘NSK State in Time’ (Shteti i NSK-së në Kohë), që shqyrton dhe sfidon idenë e asaj se çfarë do të thotë shtet sovran.
Sipas IRWIN, Shteti NSK “nuk ekziston në hapësirë, por në kohë” dhe çdo vend mund të bëhet pjesë e tij “në rrethana të caktuara dhe për një periudhë të caktuar kohore”. Meqenëse shteti i NSK-së përbëhet nga të gjitha aktivitetet e qytetarëve të tij, dhe duke qenë se qytetarët e tij janë të shpërndarë në të gjithë botën, me të drejtë mund të pretendohet se “NSK është një shtet global”.
Kjo ilustrohet nga projektet e ndryshme të IRWIN, si Ambasada e NSK-së në Moskë, Pasaporta e NSK-së, Zyra postare e NSK-së, Garda e NSK-së, e gjerë tek Pavijoni Shtetëror i NSK-së në Bienalen e Venecias 2017. “Të gjitha këto projekte kanë prejardhje dhe realizime të ndryshme konceptuale”, thonë IRWIN, “por ndajnë një tipar të përbashkët: çdonjëri prej projekteve merr institucione ose objekte të përditshme si pika referimi dhe i bën ato institucione ose objekte të NSK-së”.
E njëjta gjë vlen edhe për bashkëpunimin aktual të IRWIN me On Top Residency të Fatmir Mustafa Karllo-s, projekt qëi në vetvete pasqyron disa aspekte të shtetit. Projekti vë në përdorim një pronë publike të pashfrytëzuar në periferi të Prishtinës, konkretisht një kodër në Butoc, përgjatë rrugës së Kavajës. Vendi shenjëzohet nga mielli i bardhë—që shërben si një lloj kufiri—duke e shndërruar hapësirën në një galeri “të jashtme”.
Një nga arsyet pse Mustafa-Karllo zgjodhi këtë tokë për iniciativën e tij artistike është vendi piktoresk me një pamje të mrekullueshme të Prishtinës, veçanërisht gjatë perëndimit të diellit.
“Fatkeqësisht,” thotë Mustafa-Karllo, “kjo e bën atë gjithashtu një vend të ideal për ngritjen e ndërtesave të apartamenteve apo vilave luksoze. Një lëvizje e tillë do të shkatërronte dhe mohonte në radhë të parë natyrën shumë të bukur.”
“Duhet të punojmë vazhdimisht drejt vetëdijësimit kundër komercializimit të hapësirave publike”, thotë Mustafa-Karllo. Sipas tij, ndërtimi i këtyre ndërtesave mund të jetë i pashmangshëm dhe “do të kufizonte çasjen e shumicës së njerëzve në këto pamje dhe këtë natyrë”. Dhe kështu, qëllimi kryesor i projektit On Top Residency është “ruajtja, promovimi, dhe përdorimi i hapësirave publike dhe natyrës” përmes aktiviteteve artistike dhe kulturore.
Përvetësimi në emër të artit rezulton të ketë disa përfitime për komunitetin — edhe kjo një veçori tjetër që përbën konceptin e mjegullt të shtetit. “Sipas konceptit tim fillestar”, thotë Mustafa-Karllo, “kjo hapësirë e hapur do të vazhdojë të funksionojë si një galeri e hapur, ku në të ardhmen do të ftohen artistë të ndryshëm me projekte specifike për këtë hapsirë, për të krijuar dhe ekspozuar vepra që kanë të bëjnë me projektin e On Top Residency.”
Mënyra se si IRWIN përvetëson objektet dhe institucionet ekzistuese është e ngjashme me konceptin ‘readymade’ dhe, në fakt, mund t’u aplikohet rasteve të ndryshme. Megjithatë, IRWIN janë shumë të kujdesshëm dhe praktikojnë një proces rigoroz përzgjedhjeje — ashtu siç rekomandohet edhe në përzgjedhjen e gjësendeve të reja të gatshme (‘readymade’). “[Ne vendosim] për projektet e NSK-së vetëm pas shqyrtimit të kujdesshëm dhe atë jo shumë shpesh”, thonë IRWIN, duke pohuar kështu se ‘Territori i NSK-së në Prishtinë’ padyshim i përket serisë me të gjitha projektet tjera të NSK-së.
Flamuri i NSK-së është përdorur që nga fillimi i projektit ‘NSK State in Time’ (Shteti i NSK-së në kohë) në vitin 1992. Por, në thelb të këtij projekti të tanishëm “nuk është flamuri i NSK-së”, thonë IRWIN, “por përdorimi i këtij flamuri për të përfshirë përkohësisht një pjesë të Kosovës në shtetin e NSK-së”.
NSK-ja mund të mos ketë ende sistemin e saj financiar, ekonominë, apo ligën sportive, por “qytetarët” e saj “megjithatë, mund të pretendojnë se një parcelë toke në një kodër afër Prishtinës”, thonë IRWIN, “përveç që është në Kosovë, është gjithashtu pjesë e shtetit të NSK-së”.
A Summer of Science Fiction: Creative Writing Workshops, Lectures, and KSci-Fi Zine
StoryLab, as part of Manifesta 14 Prishtina, invites you to apply for a 7-week series of creative writing workshops and lectures with a special focus on science fiction, by the end of which participants will have one piece of peer-reviewed writing ready for publication in the upcoming KSci-Fi zine.
If you are passionate about cyberpunk, space opera, environmental sci-fi, speculative fiction, fantasy, criticism, personal essays about sci-fi, or some hybrid experiment that mixes them all — then KSci-Fi – Kosovo Science Fiction Foundation is the space (and time) for you.
Even though writing science fiction is not very common in Kosovo, we at StoryLab believe that it is essential. In a young democracy like Kosovo, it may sometimes be easier to comment on and explore the societal developments through a “filter” of literary texts that feature robots, space ships, hackers, environmental apocalypse, multiverses and alternate realities, utopias and dystopias, explorations into the potential of the mind, and ruminations on space and time.
Time and Place:
This 7-week program will feature creative writing workshops, lectures, and group discussions. Workshops and lectures will be held in person at the Centre for Narrative Practice, a new permanent interdisciplinary institution and a Manifesta 14 Prishtina venue on the premises of the former Hivzi Sylejmani Library.
For the convenience of our international participants, we will also provide an option to follow the workshops online.
The program is expected to start in late July 2022 and end in early September 2022.
Format:
The creative writing workshop will be led by Artrit Bytyçi, M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the New School in New York City.
The workshop will span over seven sessions, with around 10-14 participants, and will meet once a week. Each week, 2-3 students will submit their texts in advance, which will be workshopped by their peers. Each session will also feature discussions and lectures on the craft of writing, exploration of various authors and methods they use, as well as comments, suggestions, and constructive critiques. For each class, participants will also be assigned readings, and short assignments.
Submitted texts can be in Albanian and/or English.
StoryLab will also organize a lecture series alongside the workshops, where we will cover topics related to science fiction and how it intersects with society, the environment, feminism, arts, film, architecture, music, etc.
The texts from the workshop will be collected and published in the inaugural issue of KSci-Fi zine.

StoryLab, si pjesë e Manifesta 14 Prishtina, ju fton të aplikoni për një seri 7-javore të punëtorive të shkrimit kreativ dhe ligjëratave me vëmendje të veçantë në fantashkencë. Në fund të këtij programi pjesëmarrësit do të kenë të përpiluar nga një shkrim që do të publikohet në zinën e ardhshme “KSci-Fi”.
Nëse jeni të apasionuar pas cyperpunk-ut, operave hapsinore, fantashkencës mjedisore, trillit spekulativ, fantazisë, kritikës, eseve personale mbi fantashkencën, apo për ndonjë eksperiment hibrid që i përzien të tëra — atëherë, KSci-Fi është hapësira (dhe koha) për ju!
Edhe pse shkrimi i zhanrit fantastiko-shkencor nuk është shumë i përhapur në Kosovë, StoryLab beson se zhvillimi i tij është thelbësor. Punëtoria e shkrimit kreativ do të drejtohet nga Artrit Bytyçi, M.F.A në Shkrim Kreativ nga The New School në New York City.
Punëtoria do të shtrihet në shtatë sesione me rreth 10-14 pjesëmarrës të cilët do të takohen një herë në javë.
Secilën javë, 2-3 studentë do të dërgojnë tekstet e tyre paraprakisht, të cilët do të komentohen dhe përpunohen në bashkëpunim me pjesëmarrësit e tjerë. Në secilin sesion do të mbahen diskutime dhe ligjërata mbi zanatin e të shkruarit, hulumtime të autorëve të ndryshëm dhe metodave që ata përdorin, si dhe komente, sugjerime dhe kritika konstruktive. Për secilin takim, do të ketë detyra të vogla leximi dhe shkrimi.
Tekstet e dërguara mund të jenë në gjuhën shqipe dhe/ose në gjuhën angleze.
StoryLab gjithashtu do të organizojë një seri ligjëratash krahas punëtorive, ku do të shqyrtohen tema që kanë të bëjnë me fantashkencën dhe se si ajo ndërlidhet me shoqërinë, mjedisin, feminizimin, artet, arkitekturën, muzikën etj.

StoryLab is honored, proud, and excited to participate in Manifesta 14 alongside so many amazing artists, collectives, initiatives, and organizations. Manifesta’s 100-day artistic program will take place from July 22, 2022, until October 30, 2022, in Prishtina, Kosovo.
Manifesta 14’s curatorial concept — it matters what worlds world worlds — focuses on exploring ways we tell stories, which, incidentally, is also StoryLab’s main focus.
StoryLab’s projects will contribute to the upcoming Center for Narrative Practice at the site of the former Hivzi Sylejmani Library in Prishtina.
As part of our Crosspollinations initiative, StoryLab is proud and honored to announce our collaboration with Dhemetra Foundation. StoryLab will develop a series of introductory creative writing workshops for their Zana Literature Festival in Mitrovica. More info, coming up soon.
Kosovo 2.0 invites you to register for a workshop to develop your creative writing and research skills, organized within the Lokomotiva 2.0 program funded by the Prince Claus Fund.
The workshop “Research methods, writing and publication” will be held on September 7 and 8, 2021 from 10:00 to 15:00, at K2.0. The application deadline is September 2, 2021.
In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn what research is, how to approach different social topics, what are the research methods and how to apply them, how to identify and quote sources and more.
On the first day (September 7) you will learn about the basics of creative writing, stories, narratives and literary genres. Participants will choose a genre and work on a short literary essay. This task will be assigned to you on the first day and must be completed by the second day of the workshop.
During the second day (September 8), participants will discuss some examples of good beginnings of books, stories or essays. Then they will compare them with their writings. Some editing techniques will also be discussed and there will be an exchange of ideas for future projects, focusing specifically on the topics of gender, ethnicity, race and religion. This workshop will lay the groundwork for the jobs that participants will perform in the future.
We invite young journalists, researchers, activists and other interested individuals who want to express themselves through published articles to apply for this workshop, led by the writer Artrit Bytyçi and psychologist Adea Kondirolli.
The workshop will be held in the event space at the offices of Kosovo 2.0 (St. Ferat Dragaj nr 25 | behind Furra Qerimi 1, in Sunny Hill, Prishtina).
For those who need, translation into English and Serbian will be provided.

Instituti Undesignate dhe Shkolla e Cineks-it në bashkëpunim me StoryLab kanë hapur thirrjen për programin “Shkrim për Kulturë dhe Film” i cili integron një seri ligjeratash dhe punëtorish të cilat synojnë të zhvillojnë aftësitë e shkrimit për kulturë dhe film. Ky program synon zhvillimin e aftësive për të kritikuar dhe analizuar në mënyrë koherente veprat kinematografike dhe artistike. Ligjeratat e ndryshme kanë për qëllim t’i ndihmojnë pjesëmarrësve t’i shohin filmat dhe veprat artistike nga këndvështrime shoqërore, filozofike, antropologjike dhe artistike.

Institute Undesignate and Cineks, in collaboration with StoryLab, invite you to apply for a series of lectures and workshops which aim to develop your writing for film and culture skills. Be it criticism, nonfiction, creative writing, journalism, texts with an academic focus, blogs, or some experiment that mixes them all — This is the space for you.
This 6-week program will not only focus on the art of writing, but will also aim to develop your ability to critique and coherently analyse cinematic and artistic works. To achieve this we have set up a series of lectures with diverse topics to help you view films from societal, philosophical, anthropological and artistic perspectives. The workshop will also pave the way for you to be commissioned to write for us and our blog, and give you the chance to gain experience and make connections.
By the end of the workshop and lecture series, you will have one piece of writing ready for publication at Cineks.com Blog, as well as at least two in-development texts for publication in the following months. Our aim is to commission each writer’s texts.

This 6-weeks program includes writing workshops, lectures, discussions, and interactive/immersive learning experiences.
Nita Luci, Lura Limani, Lum Çitaku, Norika Sefa, Fatmir Mustafa – Karllo, Liburn Jupolli, Shpëtim Selmani, are just some among the prominent writers, artists, and professors to tackle topics ranging from art, culture, feminism, film theory, criticism, acting, music, literature, philosophy.
Writing workshops will be led by our resident writer, Artrit Bytyçi of StoryLab.

Ky program 6-javor përveç që do të përqëndrohet në artin e të shkruarit, ai gjithashtu synon zhvillimin e aftësive për të kritikuar dhe analizuar në mënyrë koherente veprat kinematografike dhe artistike. Kosovo Calling is an initiative to document traditional and contemporary cultural practices among Kosovo’s diverse communities. The project is generously supported by KUSA and the U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo.
We welcome applications from students of all fields and from all communities, particularly those with fewer chances in the past. To be considered, you must:
Be an advanced university student or recent graduate living in Kosovo.
Have a good level of understanding and speaking English.
Have an interest in ethnography and cultural practices.
Show willingness to learn creative documentation techniques.
Be committed to attending all three workshops
Be willing to work on a collaborative multimedia project.

We are honored to announce our upcoming publication.
“The Arbiter” by Artrit Bytyçi is a serialized ethno-cyber-punk novel. Episode 1 is expected to arrive in print in January 2021.
This is a bilingual edition that comes in both English and Albanian. Beside the first installment of the story, it will also feature several essays, nonfiction texts, and literary criticism.

Greetings writers,
You are invited to participate in a series of creative writing workshops with Artrit Bytyçi. The workshop will focus on fiction and nonfiction: short stories, excerpts from novels, personal essays, excerpts from memoirs, or any other kind of experimental prose. (This time we won’t focus on poetry.)
The workshop will span over 6 sessions, with around 10-15 participants, and will meet every 1-2 weeks (in Prishtina and/or online). The workshop will be led by Artrit Bytyçi, M.F.A. in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City.
Submitted texts can be in Albanian and/or English.
Each session will be held in the style of workshops inspired by the Creative Writing Program at The New School in New York and, among others, will feature: discussions and lectures on the craft of writing, workshopping of works submitted by the participants, comments, suggestions, critiques, exploration of various authors and methods they used. For each class, participants will submit homework and complete reading specified in the class syllabus.
By the end of the workshop, works will be published in print and online, and participants will have a chase to read them at a literary event (“live” or “online).
Application:
The workshop is open to writers older than 18. The main criteria will be the quality of the writing.
Previous experience with creative writing is preferred, since this is intended as an intermediate-advanced level workshop.
